Chapter 9

Chapter 9 Summary
Shooting Match

It was still night, Omri put the cowboy in the sock drawer, then had his supper, and gave the cowboy. The cowboy threw the water, shouting and complaining in his strong Texan accent to Omri, then sat down near his horse and started sobbing which to me is weird that a grown man cries after being offered something. Omri then went to check on Little Bear, who finished painting the tepee and wanted a fire in front of the longhouse, after, Omri asked him if he could dance, so Little Bear did a love dance and asked Omri if his painting were good. Omri got in to bed and could hear the horse making sounds.  He was woken at dawn by the sound of shots, Omri got out off bed, scanned his bedroom, and found the cowboy, Little Bear and the two horses were missing. He looked around again, he then saw the cowboy and his horse behind a chair, the cowboy fired two shots while Omri followed his aim and spotted Little Bear with his horse behind Omri's vest which was a hill to them. Omri stopped Little Bear from killing the cowboy by saying he wouldn't get him  a wife as he promised, he then went over to the cowboy giving him his hat , Omri got to know his name was Boone and asked  him what he wanted for breakfast which was steak, eggs on beans and coffee.

Chapter 8

Cowboy

Patrick started asking Omri if he could have one to himself , and then he went crazy, fought with Omri which spoiled Little Bears meal. The Indian got mad, then started chopping wedges out of a chair, but stopped, Omri went down to get a spoon full of hot stew and rushed back only to find that Patrick had brought the cowboy and horse to life. The cowboy then raised his pistol and fired at Patrick's cheek, Omri took the bullet out, set the cowboy and horse aside, then gave Little Bear the stew and promised Patrick to bring the cowboy to school, but don't put him in the cupboard.

Chapter 7

Uninvited Brothers

Omri went out to the hardware shop to buy a new seed tray and seeds, as he did so he asked the clerk maize (which was sweet corn), outsid was Patrick standing, looking at him. He pulled out a plastic cowboy and horse for Omri, but he didn't want them, Patrick then asked whether he could go with him and Omri debated with himself until he said it was okay.  When they got home, Omri brothers, Gillion and Adiel, were in his room, apparently found their rat and were marveled by the longhouse, which was nearly finished, and  Omri had them leave immediately . Patrick got to see the Indian and horse, he was amazed and wanted to bring armies to life, but Omri stops him and explains that if he brought them to life, they wouldn't do what he wanted, which made sense and finally they got some meat for Little Bear.

Chapter 6

The Chief Is Dead, Long Live the Chief

Omri got to school, headed to the library and found a book called "On the Trail Of the Iroquois" , he read some interesting parts, including about the Iroquois Indians called "The Five Nations", their enemy was the Algonquin tribe and English helping the Iroquois. The bell rang, Omri went to the class, he was told by Patrick that there are more plastic Indian toys at the Yapps store, so at lunch Omri went to the store to get a Indian chief only for the bow and arrows and got back to the handicrafts room to make the tepee promised for Little Bear. School ended later, so Omri went home, and found a bit a mess in his room with twigs and grass everywhere, but at least he found Little Bear, finished with half of the longhouse and the horse next to it. He then put the Indian chief  in the cupboard, then opened it and the chief stared at Omri. The chief then died of fright, Little Bear came to take the headdress and cloak and after, Omri's father called him down to go buy a replacement seed tray for the one he took before.

Chapter 5

Tommy

Omri opens the cupboard door, there was a World War 1 medic, Omri tells the him that he is dreaming and wants him to help cure Little Bear. The medic is put down near  Little Bear, then takes out a pair of scissors, a bandage and medicine to patch up the Indian, once that was done, Omri puts him in the cupboard saying goodbye and the medic replies, "A pleasure, Tommy Atkins at your service" and gives a salute, Omri, regretfully, shuts the door. I believe Omri was tempted to keep him but it was too complicated. Little Bear walks up and asks him for :

1. A Bark of a tree
2. some twigs
3. soil

All these were needed to make the longhouse, a type of Native American house, Little Bear wanted, then Omri brought an ax for the Indian and then he left for school.

Chapter 4

The Great Outdoors

Omri took Little Bear and the horse in a box outside his backyard, there he let them out and Omri was amazed by the horses speed. When it was to go back in, Omri put them in the box, then headed back in, but was stopped by his father, Omri was scared and he was crushing the box, later he found by doing so, he frighted the horse who kicked Little Bear, so Omri found a medical orderly and decided to bring his bag to life, but instead puts the medic along as well.

Chapter 3

Thirty Scalps

Before Omri went to sleep, he wanted to know if the magic of the cupboard and key could work on wood and metal, so he did an experiment by putting a plastic Indian tent and a matchbox car and then dozed off. He was woken by Little Bear, Omri opened the cupboard to only plastic items and figures work with the magic and decided to let Little Bear down on the floor. The Indian tells Omri about him and his clan fight with the English against the French and he had taken thirty scalps which horrified Omri. He went down to get Little Bear some meat and as he did so, he realized two things:

1. Little Bear wasn't just a mere toy come to life, but was a real person.
2. He might be still alive in his time and Omri had magicked him out from the past.

Omri also knew if he told anyone about his secret, they would take away Little Bear and the cupboard.  He went back upstairs, gave the Indian his meal and asked what else he wanted like:

1. Bow and arrows
2. Other weapons
3. A horse

Little Bear asked for a horse, so Omri brought one to life and the Indian manged to tame it.

Chapter 2

The Door is Shut

After what happend at dawn, Omri was over joyed about the Indian, after breakfast he left for school, once there in class Omri told Patrick that he liked the Indian which almost let him know about the little secret. During classtime he thought about him and whether he could survive in the cupboard long enough till Omri got back. When school ended,  he ran home, up to his room, opened the cupboard, and found the Indian plastic! He knelt there, shocked, then he locked the cupboard and Omri went to bed without eating. Again, at night sounds came from the cupboard, I think Omri was very happy to see his Indian alive after he opened the door, Omri offered him some food and a tepee. He got to know the Indians name was Little Bear and they both went to sleep.

Chapter 1

Birthday presents

It's Omri's birthday, he gets a plastic toy Indian from his best friend Patrick, which didn't satisfy much, a cupboard from his brother Gillion and a strange key from his mother that once belonged to her grandmother. He puts the Indian in the cupboard, and then locks it, at dawn he hears sounds from cupboard and he opens it to find a live tiny Indian. Omri thought about telling the others, but he knew if he took his eyes of the little man , it might vanish or turn plastic again, then he heard his mother coming up and so he shut the cupboard door with the Indian in it.
